Like! Where are you going to be on the Valentine weekend? Hopefully Germany because that’s where all the action is!
The German Karneval kicks off on the 11th of February with the Women’s Carnival, and carries on till the 17th.
So that’s almost a week of music, dance, costumes, and parades!
I was just reading up a little bit about what really happens during the week, and it’s quite interesting. Take the Women’s Carnival, for example. Ladies, it turns out you get to kiss any man of your choice this day, if you chop his tie off!! Loads of fun follows over the weekend, and all this leads up to Rose Monday when you can particiapte in the colourful street parades. Expect to see dancers, floats, and marching bands making their way down festive streets thronging with celebrators! All this is followed by Shrove Tuesday and with it,
costume balls!
The Karneval is celebrated with great gusto in every German city, but I believe it’s at its best in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Munster, Aachen, and Mainz.
