Have any of you visited Ingleton? You must! I went there on my brithday a few years ago and absolutely loved it!
Ingleton is a village located in the foothills of Ingleborough, in the Yorkshire Limestone Dales. It rests at the junction of rivers Twiss and Doe. And this strategic location has made it home to numerous outdoor activities.
For starters, Ingleton is a walker’s delight. Depending on how enthusiastic and how fit you are, you can choose from many different routes. If you’re up for it, I’d recommend the 26 mile day-long circular trek that links the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside, and Pen-y-Ghent.
You could also try the Waterfall’s Walk, which in my opinion is one of the most scenic routes I’ve encountered in England. This 8 mile walk through pasture and thick oak woodlands takes you past picture perfect waterfalls. You’ll find babbling brooks and treacherous falls alike. Open fields dotted with sheep and lonely barns, and stunning mountainous forest-area alike. And all the while the distant roar of the falls fills your ears. Beautiful.
Ingleton is also a caver’s delight. There are guided tours through both the White Scar Caves and the Ingleborough Cave. Unfortunately we didn’t have the time to go caving that day, but it’s on my list of things to do! I hear that White Scar Caves has one of the longest cave chambers in Britain!
Climbing, paragliding, and abseiling are other activities to try at Ingleton. So are fishing and golf!
We visited mid- February, and it was a fairly chilly out in the open, though the walking kept one warm, so I’d suggest waiting till maybe the end of the month, for a bright day! You don’t want to be caught in the rain!
Oh and I must mention that the Ingleton pottery is quite famous too. So if you walk into the village, you’ll find little stores where you can pick something up.
