Poundland – almost everything under the sun for £1 ! Sounds too good to be true?
Frankly, I’ve always been very wary of Poundland, because I’ve always found it a little hard to accept that you can buy branded products which usually sell for a lot more, for just a pound, without compromising on quality.
So, as a student here in the UK, I’d often walk into a pound store such as Poundland, look around, be amazed and incredulous and suspicious at the same time, poke around, almost take things to the cash counter, but then chicken out at the last minute and go running to Tesco for comfort! But this one time I couldn’t make it to a supermarket because I was running late, and so decided to give Poundland a try. Picked up a wooden spatula and whisk set in a stand for, well, £1, and came back to my flat, expecting it to have turned to sawdust in a matter of 5 minutes! But believe you me, that spatula set lasted me a whole year!
So 5 months into my Poundland-spatula experience, I decided to go get myself some microwaveable storage boxes as well. Which, again, surprise surprise, lasted the rest of my stay at university and after!
I wouldn’t be able to pick up food or bodycare or anything else similar from Poundland, because I’m still not entirely convinced they won’t make my hair fall out or make me break into a rash or give me a bad tummy, but I think for a student on a budget, this is definitely a place you may want to visit for stuff like kitchen/bath/homeware, or cleaning material or stationery etc.
